The Classroom Deets …
Here’s how we’ll roll …
Lessons, Assignments, and Grades
Online Lessons: Google Meet serves as our platform for interactive learning experiences. Google Classroom is where all our lesson assignments, online materials and communications will be managed.
Engaging Lessons: Each lesson is designed to be comprehensive and tailored to individual learning styles. Topics include Key Words and Outlines (KWOs), stylistic techniques, story sequencing, and vocabulary expansion, ensuring a well-rounded and engaging experience for every student.
Detailed Syllabus: A detailed scope and sequence is provided, outlining the curriculum for the academic year. This helps parents and students understand the educational journey ahead and prepares them for each step.
Weekly Assignments: Assignments are given weekly through Google Classroom, allowing students to reinforce their learning. Additional support is available to address specific challenges, ensuring every student can keep up with the material.
Academic Assessment: Grades are issued once per semester, reflecting each student's progress based on participation, quizzes, and completed work. Understanding that parents may have different views on grading, I am open to discussing these to ensure we align on expectations and support each student's growth.
personalize classroom approach
Small Group Focus: Small class sizes allow for a more personalized learning experience. By understanding that each student learns differently, I aim to discover what engages each learner and provide the opportunity for everyone to share their thoughts and insights.
Engaging Learning Environment: The goal is to create an environment where students are curious and excited about learning. Active participation is encouraged, making the classroom a dynamic and interactive space.
Socratic Discussions: The teaching style revolves around encouraging critical thinking and active engagement through dialogue. Open-ended questions are frequently used to stimulate deep thinking and encourage students to justify their ideas. Students are also invited to ask questions, share opinions, and explore different perspectives.
Student Expectations in Our Virtual Classroom
Speak with Kindness and Respect: The classroom is a positive space where every student feels valued and respected.
Be Mindful of Others: Consideration for others' feelings and perspectives is key, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Encourage and Speak Truthfully: Honest and supportive feedback helps build a constructive community where everyone can grow.
Embrace a Growth Mindset: The focus is on learning and evolving. Students are encouraged to view challenges as opportunities for growth and to celebrate their progress.
Commit to Excellence: Striving for personal bests is encouraged, with a shared goal of achieving new heights together.
Practice Makes Perfect: Writing is a skill that improves with practice. It's important to dedicate time to work on your writing assignments.
Resources and Tools: You’ll have access to all the necessary resources, including guides on using quality adjectives, strong verbs, -ly adverbs, and who/which clauses. These tools will help you develop your style and express your unique voice in your writing.
Developing Your Style: As you learn different stylistic and structural techniques, you'll discover creative ways to express yourself. This journey helps you find your unique storytelling style.
Responsibility and Growth: While we cover a lot during our lessons, completing homework on your own is key to reinforcing what you've learned. It’s your responsibility to apply the techniques and concepts independently, which is essential for your personal growth and deepening your understanding of writing.
Attendance and Communication
Be Ready and Prepared: Punctuality and preparedness are essential. Students should have all necessary materials ready at the start of each class.
No Makeup Classes, But Plenty of Support: Although makeup classes are not available, support is always provided. If students encounter difficulties with the lessons, they are encouraged to reach out for guidance to ensure they stay on track. Completing homework independently is crucial for reinforcing learning.
Communication is Key: Open communication is encouraged. If a student cannot attend a class, parents and students are urged to communicate promptly so that we can work together to find a suitable solution.
Check-Ins: Regular parent-teacher meetings are an important part of ensuring that students are progressing well and receiving the support they need. Students also attend these meetings as this gives us the opportunity to hear the student's achievements and address any concerns.
Open Communication: Beyond scheduled meetings, parents are encouraged to reach out with any questions or concerns. Open lines of communication help create a strong partnership focused on the student's success.
