Adventures in Writing

Get ready to ignite your students' imaginations as they explore a wide variety of fascinating subjects in Adventures in Writing! Students will write about adventurous topics such as Roman hoplites, tornadoes, Leif Eriksson, and other interesting subjects while the learn to write with the Style and Structure writing method. Together, we'll tackle IEW Units 1–7, journeying through note-taking, retelling narrative gems, summarizing references, crafting tales from vivid imagery, and conjuring up our stories. And don't forget to gear up for weekly vocabulary quests to expand their linguistic horizons!

For grades 3rd to 5th

Prerequisite: ability to read at a 3rd grade reading level or above

Materials Required:

  • Adventures in Writing, Student Book

  • ring binder with divider tabs, loose leaf notebook paper,

  • highlighters, pencils, and pens.

  • thesaurus (such as The American Heritage Desk Dictionary And Thesaurus)

Wonders of Science

Get ready to ignite your little scientist's curiosity as they delve into the mesmerizing realm of bugs, scientific wonders, and trailblazing inventors—all while sharpening their writing skills with pizzazz and panache! In this thrilling year-long voyage, students will explore a diverse range of science-based texts, laying the groundwork for imaginative and enjoyable writing adventures. Together, we'll journey through IEW Units 1–7, mastering the art of note-taking, crafting narrative marvels, summarizing references, conjuring essays from captivating visuals, and crafting their very own formal essays and critiques. Plus, gear up for weekly vocabulary escapades to expand their scientific lexicon and ignite their passion for discovery!

For grades 4th to 7th

Prerequisite: completion of at least one year of an elementary level IEW curriculum or first year IEW student in 6th or 7th grade

Materials Required:

  • Wonders of Science, Student Book

Following Narnia Volume 1: The Lion’s Song

Step into the wardrobe and embark on an epic adventure through the enchanted land of Narnia with this year-long class! As we journey through the first three novels of The Chronicles of Narnia®—The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy—students will not only explore this magical world but also master the art of writing with Structure and Style.

For grades 7th to 9th

Prerequisite: completion of at least one year (two years preferred) of a junior high level IEW curriculum and the ability to key word outline without assistance

Materials Required:

  • Following Narnia Volume 1: The Lion’s Song, Student Book

  • highlighters, pencils, and pens.

Fix-It! Grammar Level 1: The Nose Tree

Dive into the wild world of grammar with The Nose Tree ! No prior grammar knowledge needed—we'll start from scratch and explore the basics together. From quirky parts of speech to punctuation pizzazz, homophone hijinks, and beyond, get ready for a grammar adventure like no other!

For grades 3rd to 5th

Fix-It! Grammar Level 2: Town Mouse and Country Mouse

Join the fun with the Town Mouse and Country Mouse! We're diving deeper into the world of grammar, defining parts of speech, mastering those tricky commas and capitalization rules, exploring complex sentence patterns, and much more. Get ready to embark on a grammatical journey filled with excitement and discovery!

Fix-It! Grammar Level 3: Robin Hood

Get ready to sharpen your skills with the Robin Hood Workbook! Building on what you've learned in previous levels, we'll dive into even more exciting grammar adventures. From mastering those sneaky comma rules to exploring phrasal and clausal constructions, conquering quotation punctuation, and discovering the power of pronouns, there's no limit to the fun we'll have as we embark on this grammatical quest together!

For grades 6th to 8th

Get ready for a wild ride with the Mowgli and Shere Khan! Building on what you've already mastered in previous levels, we're diving even deeper into the jungle of grammar. From unlocking the secrets of punctuation to navigating essential and nonessential clauses, swinging through complex sentence patterns, and exploring transitional prepositional openers, this adventure promises thrills, excitement, and plenty of learning along the way!
